Daghestan including Lesghistan

Rugs of the mountainous Daghestan area are characterized by their coarse manufacture and high-trimmed pile. Various small decorative motifs are used. Daghestan prayer rugs often have a pale background and a niche with a pointed or pentagonal arch.

 

Caucasian area rugs:

Most Caucasian rugs in existence today date from the second half of the 19th century. These rugs tend toward the abstract and geometric. Knotting is symmetrical with a medium density of knots. Among the best known production areas and most popular types are the following, Baku, Daghestan, Gendje, Karabagh, Kazak, Shirvan, and Talish.
