Most Caucasian rugs in existence today date from the second half of the 19th century. These rugs tend toward the abstract and geometric. Knotting is symmetrical with a medium density of knots. Among the best known production areas and most popular types are the following, Baku, Daghestan, Gendje, Karabagh, Kazak, Shirvan, and Talish.
 

Persian rugs:

With an emphasis on design and line, Persian rugs distinguished by their complex and calligraphic nature. Although Persian weavers have used geometric style in the form of abstract or stylized figures, Persian design is most recognized for its curvilinear style. The major geographic production centers are Northwest Persia, Western Persia, Southwestern Persia, Central Persia, Southern Persia and Eastern Persia.

By looking at style and design, the traditional rugs made in Anatolia (a region now known as Turkey) usually can be identified as coming from one of three geographic productions centers. These major geographic centers are in western, central and eastern Anatolia
